Radiation City “The Hands That Take You” by Radiation City

Remember this band? Radiation City. They are super excellent.

I would start with Park, which is my favorite song, and listen to the rest of the album from there.

What’s in my Cassette Player right now?
Portland gives me such wonderful things. Stopped in Tender Loving Empire and picked up the prettiest cassette I saw. That happened to be Radiation City, The Hands that Take You.
Some songs remind me of Band of Horses, some of Mirah, some of She & Him, some of Fleet Foxes, but all of them are tinged with a unique electronic component and something like the sepia of the 70’s, including a female voice slightly reminiscent of Karen Carpenter’s at times.
Ugh, it is SO GOOD. I want more more more more more for my commutes.

What’s in my cassette player?
Blanket Truth & Dana Jewell.
Bought this one at Sonic Boom Records because, well, tapes are neato! The sticker on the back says it has “Lo-Fi 4-Track, folk pop recordings” which I can totally get on board with.
Blanket Truth is, from what I can tell from the music and insert, a 4-piece band who just have fun messing around on acoustic-y instruments and crooning along. Fairly enjoyable and cute.
Dana Jewell is a dude who plays some guitar, bangs a bit on the drums, and has some simple (/so-so), but super endearing lyrics.
I’ll admit, I bought this basically because I wanted some tapes and this one sounded bearable and had owls on it.
Turns out I don’t mind popping it in during some commutes and listening to people do what they obviously love and have fun doing. I think I’ll continue to pick up some Lost Sound Tapes when I run across them.

So glad you asked! I’ve been reclaiming my cassette player after years of iPod-through-the-cassette-plus-cable-ma-bob-thinger. It’s been wonderful.
Right now it’s TOM RADIO, which means my commutes are filled with

“Indie alt rock, punk, emo and hardcore,”

Oh hey, 1999! Missed you and your music. (Ok, in reality I was listening to N*Sync and Britney Spears in ‘99, but now I can go back and enjoy real music! Eric Sanford would be proud of me.)
Favorite parts: Thomas’ hilariously East Coast/New York accent, the fact that someone requested Vanilla Ice and was publicly shamed (as was the requester of AC/DC), oh and of course listening to Sunny Day Real Estate.
Looking forward to finishing this one up over the next couple commutes.
